Ford Explorer lover

Is there a more iconic SUV on the roads today? It’s a hard act to follow in anyone’s book, for the combination of Ford reliability and build quality, coupled with the Explorer’s lengthy and well followed lifespan, leads to a vehicle that is, to many, the ultimate in the class.

From introduction in the early years of the 1990′s, through to the current market-leading Explorer range, this mighty vehicle has led the way in SUV development, and with five generations of redesign – including the new for 2009 fifth generation concept – the Explorer shows no signs of backing off. Current models feature two engine choices, with the base model being a very capable four liter V6 that pushes out 210bhp, and the top of the range a brutish 4.6 liter V8, with over 290bhp on tap in standard form.

The similarity of this engine to the Mustang unit makes it very popular indeed, and after-market modifications can render it a very impressive lump indeed. Transmission is all-automatic, and available as five or six speed, and the range of interior trim leaves and specifications is what makes the Explorer the leader in the class. Ford has left no stone unturned in catering for a wide variety of customers, and there will be an explorer to meet any demand. Given the popularity of the model – somewhere in the region of three million Explorers have been sold during its lifetime – it is no surprise that the new model is eagerly awaited both by dealers and the public, and even in these days of recession there is no doubt the Ford Explorer will remain a popular and well-loved vehicle.
